Boss wants response against the Iron

Graham Alexander has called for the Club to stick together ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against Scunthorpe United at Highbury Stadium.

It is over six months since the Cod Army last played under the home floodlights, and Alexander is hoping for the perfect response after Saturday’s disappointment against Chesterfield.

“It was a massive disappointment on Saturday for various reasons but the main reason was the result,” said the boss.

“We had a brief talk with the players about certain aspects we have to be better at and I include myself in that. We have to focus on what is important and that is football. We are now getting ready for the game on Tuesday night.

“We couldn’t wait to get into work on Monday morning and to start feeling positive and preparing for the Scunthorpe United match.

“The reaction will be there from the players. Scunthorpe are a good team with a lot of good players.”

The Iron head to Lancashire on the back of a 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town on Saturday and lie in 17th in League One, just three points shy of Fleetwood Town.

He continued: “Scunthorpe have some very good attacking players and defensively they are strong.

“We are confident, especially at home, that we can put on a performance and pick up three points.

“We have to make sure we focus on our jobs and our responsibilities as individuals.”

The manager concluded his pre-match interview by explaining how the supporters have yet again another key role to play on Tuesday night as Town attempt to make it back to back home wins in League One.

“The supporters have been superb during the last couple of games when we have been up against it,” said Alexander to the Club website.

“The supporters really got behind the team the last time we played at home and we were down to ten men for the final 30 minutes.

“They helped us achieve a valuable three points and we are going to need their support once again on Tuesday night.

“As a Club we will stick together through the thick and thin. There are always set backs but I feel if you stick together, it will only make you stronger.

“It is the only way a Club can go forward and maintain that push for success.”
