Striker lobbed keeper Johnstone from distance

David Ball’s exquisite lob over keeper Sam Johnstone ensured Town a share of the spoils against their Lancashire rivals Preston North End this afternoon.

Ball equalised for the Cod Army with six minutes remaining, and despite bombarding the North End back line late on, Town were unable to find a winner.

Daniel Johnson had given Simon Grayson’s men the lead early on in difficult conditions, however a couple of inspired attacking substitutions from Graham Alexander changed the game.

Afterwards, Ball said: “Chris Maxwell will tell you that I try that every other day in training, but today it has luckily gone into the top corner.

“There’s a lot of belief in that dressing room and it goes through us all.

“The young lads more than played their part in it as well against a promotion chasing team in a local derby.

“They must be fearless in their play, but at the same time we also need to give them our experience and I’m sure the manager will continue to do that.

“It’s exciting for the Club as these players certainly have a bright future in the game.

“For the goal, I’ve just turned the man and seen him a little bit off his line. You’ve got to try these things in football sometimes and it’s come off.

“It was an amazing feeling scoring that goal. I love playing for Fleetwood and being involved with the Club.

“To score a goal like that in a game against Preston is a great feeling.

“I’ve been frustrated in recent weeks because I’ve only been playing bit-part.

“I know I can play in this team week in week out, but I’ve just got to prove that now.”
