Ball earned a point for the Cod Army with a spectacular finish

Graham Alexander was delighted with his side’s second half display as they came from behind to earn a deserved draw against Preston North End.

Daniel Johnson gave the visitors the perfect start on the Fylde coast with a curling effort early on which put North End in the ascendency.

However, substitute David Ball replied in the second half with an exquisite lob over keeper Sam Johnstone from distance.

Alexander stated his pride at the team’s response after the break, and felt that the Cod Army were more than worth their point.

He said: “I thought both subs that came on both contributed to the upturn in the performance.

“The players pushed themselves a little bit more and pressed Preston.

“I think we showed them a little bit too much respect in the first half.

“I wasn’t happy with the display, and when you’re 1-0 down you don’t want to concede any more.

“I didn’t think we’d competed in the game as well as we should have, but second half we did that and nullified their threats up front.

“They responded magnificently which was great to see because I saw players playing with more determination and a smile on their face.

“When the stoppage in play happened we were just concerned that it might have taken the momentum away from us when we’d began to build.

“The players carried on where they left off before the break though and really took the game to Preston.

“On another day we could have got the winner.

“We had some good opportunities, and even thought we could have had a couple of penalties today.

“If we get those penalties then it gets us back into the game, but we had to rely on a superb goal from David Ball to have a share of the spoils."
