Walking Football proving popular amongst locals

Fleetwood Town will have two walking football teams represent the Club at a tournament at playfootball.net in Blackpool on Wednesday 17th June.

Walking football continues to grow from strength to strength in the area, with a number of local individuals enjoying sessions put on by the Club twice a week.

Should the Club’s teams be successful in Blackpool, they will then enter a national final to be held at St George’s Park in Staffordshire.

Sports Development Officer Jason Sharp said: “It is the first year the Football League are hosting this tournament. It is something that is going on all over the country and everyone is participating in their local area.

“We are a part of the North West regional qualifiers and the winner will go on to play at St George’s Park.

“We have two teams representing Fleetwood Town. It is a round robin tournament held in Blackpool so we will see how we get on. The aim is to end up at St George’s.

“We have two weekly Walking Football sessions, one at Milton Street in Fleetwood and the other at Fuse Football.

“Between the two sessions, we have roughly 25 participants so the turnout is fantastic considering we have only been doing it for one year.

“It is great activity for people to take part in. There is a great social side to it. We also compete in a Walking Football United League which is a national competition.

“We have a wide age range of players wanting to play Walking Football and it is great to see it going from strength to strength.”
