Development squad have recruited well over the summerDevelopment squad manager Barry Nicholson has been pleased with the progress of his side’s recruitment over the summer, and stressed that opportunities in the first team will be on offer for a number of youngsters this term.
A number of young players have put pen to paper on deals with the Club, and they will go into Nicholson’s squad come the start of the season.
With the likes of Tyler Forbes, Nick Haughton and Ash Hunter all progressing into the first team last season, opportunities are now there for others to grasp this year.
Nicholson said: “We’ve got a core of a squad now and have tried to recruit a little bit more quickly then last year because of the fact it was a brand new squad.
“We’ve tried to target lads who maybe haven’t got contracts from teams up above us, so I’m delighted with the recruitment so far.
“Hopefully when we get into pre-season we’ll look at other trialists as well, but overall I’m pretty happy with the squad I’ve got.
“I know them all having worked with them last season, so I know I’ll have a really good group to work with come the start of pre-season.
“The main thing obviously is to get the first team recruitment done. The manager will be getting all that sorted and like I say it is the main thing.
“After that we’ll have a look at where we are with the development group, and if we need to add a couple more then hopefully we’ll be allowed to do that.
“The opportunities are going to be there for them. I said to them before we broke for the summer that the condition you come back in could determine which group you’re in.
“If a few of the lads come back flying then they might catch the manager’s eye during the first couple of days.
“I told them to go away and work really hard over the summer, and come back flying because the opportunities are going to be there.”
