Youngster expects physical battle at Rugby Park on Saturday

Scottish Under 21 striker Declan McManus is relishing a return to his home country on Saturday afternoon when Town visit Kilmarnock.

It will be the first of three games that the Cod Army will play in a week, with Burnley and Getafe visiting Highbury the following Tuesday and Friday respectively.

The 20 year old began his career with Aberdeen and enjoyed a fine goalscoring spell with Morton last season before penning a deal with Town over the summer.

He said: “It’ll be a different test for me on Saturday in a Fleetwood jersey. It’s a club close to my home and I know a lot about them having played against them at first and youth team level.

“It won’t be an easy game as I’ve never had an easy game against Kilmarnock. It’ll be good to play in Scotland for an English club.

“I’ve got a lot of friends there and players who I’ve played with so I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be an exciting game.

“Kilmarnock are a very strong and physical team with a lot of big boys up front and at the back. They’ve also got some tidy midfielders.

“I’ve played with Craig Slater for Scotland Under 21’s and he’s a very good player, so too Josh Magennis who plays up front for them.

“We need these run of games now to get up to peak fitness for the start of the season and the game against Southend United.

“We’ve got three completely different tests coming up which will be good for us as a squad.

“Burnley were a Premier League side just last season, so they have a lot of very, very good players.

“Getafe are obviously a Spanish La Liga side who will know exactly how to keep possession and play football.

“No matter if we win lose or draw, the games will help us a lot come the start of the season.”
