Cod Army were a threat every time they attacked

Barry Nicholson was pleased with the attacking intent shown by his development squad as they overcame Silsden comfortably on Monday evening.

Town looked a threat throughout the contest and were a class above their Yorkshire counterparts over the 90 minutes.

Despite the winning margin, Nicholson wants his squad to learn from their mistakes which led to the home side netting on three occasions.

He said: “I’m obviously delighted with some of the goals we scored and the play too, but the major disappointment was the three goals we conceded.

“It’s something we’ll look back on as we don’t want to concede goals at all. I suppose it is the first game of pre-season so we can iron these mistakes out.

“The energy that we showed was great and we were still running strong at the end, so that’s pleasing.

“The lads get a few goals and then want to score every time they go forward, but sometimes you’ve just got to be a little bit more patient.

“You’ve got to be able to work the opposition and create gaps that make the chances a little bit easier to take.

“We tried to force things come the end of the game, but going forward I’m quite happy with everything and it wasn’t a problem.

“Austria will be good for us and I’m looking forward to it. The biggest thing will be getting the lads together and getting to know one and other.

“There’s a few new faces in the group so everybody will be 24/7 with each other for two weeks, so it gives us a great opportunity to work on loads of stuff out there.”
