Pair present awards to young local footballersFleetwood Town’s Declan McManus made his first community appearance as a Cod Army star by attending the Thornton Cleveleys U7s football presentation.
Town’s Technical Director Grétar Steinsson attended the awards evening with the Scottish striker, who joined the Club in May from Aberdeen.
Fleetwood Town have set a new community target for the upcoming season.
The plan to double the number of player and management visits in the next 12 months as the Club continues to build strong relationships with the local community.
McManus and Steinsson presented awards to Thornton Cleveleys Reds U7s and Thornton Cleveleys Blacks U7s on Friday evening.
Noel Nelson, manager of the Reds, was thrilled that the pair came along and said the children had a fantastic evening.
Speaking to the Club website, Noel said: “Everyone had a great evening. We did a slide show at the start showing Grétar’s and Declan’s footballing achievements before they were introduced to each of our players.
“Paul McGuinness, the manager of the Thornton Cleveleys Blacks, has the same view that it was a fantastic evening.
“Each of the players received a trophy for taking part and there were three special awards.
“We would like to thank Declan and Grétar for coming along.”
The awards for the players were as follows…
1. Coaches player of the year – Maximums Nelson
2. Parents player of the year – Ash Belkaid
3. Players player of the year – Connor Simeon
1. Coaches player of the year –McKauilie Parker
2. Parents player of the year – Alex Rook
3. Players player of the year – Euan McGuiness
Two special awards were given to Donna McCall and Christine Simeon who help with organising team events and fundraising.
