Matt wants more minutes under his belt

29 July 2015

Matt came on as a second half substitute

Jamille Matt was happy to get more minutes under his belt during Town’s friendly defeat to Championship side Burnley on Tuesday night.

Matt made his long awaited return to Highbury during the second half after missing the entire 2014/15 campaign through injury.

Stephen Ward gave the Clarets the lead in the first half before Marvin Sordell doubled the advantage from the penalty spot.

After the game, Matt said: “We came up against a decent side tonight who passed the ball well, but I thought we played well at times too.

“Burnley were a Premier League team last season and have still got some quality players. They’ll be there or thereabouts in the Championship this season.

“The gaffer wants us to press and that’s what we’re trying to do. We’re still a new team with a lot of new faces so they need time to bed in.

“We’ve had a bit of a test this pre-season but the gaffer has done it so we can all gel together as a team.

“Last season wasn’t a season for me really but I’m just looking to get more minutes under my belt now.

“I’m feeling good in myself but I like I say I just need a few more minutes under my belt and hopefully I’ll get that on Friday.

“We’ve got four different strikers at the Club now and can all do different things. We can complement each other throughout the season.

“Getafe will be a different kind of test for us because they’ll play a different style of football. It’ll be good for us to see how we adapt against a different style.”
