Nicholson's side head to Austria on tour on Wednesday
Fleetwood Town’s development squad got their pre-season schedule underway with an emphatic 7-3 win away at Silsden on Monday evening.After both sides had their early openings, Town took the lead in the contest after 21 minutes courtesy of Conor Smith’s long range effort,which deflected beyond Thorpe in the home goal.
Fleetwood would then have a flutter of chances, with Ashley Hunter and Harvey Hodd going close for the Cod Army.
Hunter made it two for Barry Nicholson’s men on the stroke of half-time, converting a low strike on the edge of the penalty area.
Silsden found a way back into the encounter three minutes after the interval as Craig Nicholls rounded Joe Taylor to slot home.
Fleetwood’s two goal advantage was restored with 52 minutes on the clock, when Kieran Dunbar met Gary Lavery’s cross at the back post to score.
The Cod Army increased their lead six minutes later as Hodd added Town’s fourth, while it was five on 63 minutes with Hunter netting his brace.
Hunter would turn provider for Fleetwood’s sixth, playing in striker Louis Myers who dinked the ball over Thorpe.
A quick-fire brace from Chris Wademan for the West Yorkshire outfit followed before winger Jordan Hancox completed the scoring with five minutes to play.
