Defender made his breakthrough for Town last season

Fleetwood Town defender Tyler Forbes is hoping to hit the ground running in the build up to the new season following last night’s 1-0 defeat to AFC Fylde.

The game was Town’s curtain raiser to the new season, and despite defeat at Kellamergh Park Forbes was concentrating on just getting minutes into his legs ahead of the new League One campaign.

Forbes and the rest of the squad will now head to Germany for a pre-season tour to face Borussia Dortmund B and Alemannia Aachen.

Despite defeat though the 19-year-old is remaining focused on the purpose of pre-season, to ensure he can try and nail down a regular first team place come the season opener against Southend United on August 8th.

Speaking to the Club’s media team after the full-time whistle he said: “Obviously it’s not great not winning as I thought we played well.

“We passed the ball around nicely, but it’s only the first game of pre-season so it can only get better so we’re just looking forward to the next game now and hopefully we can get a win.

“We had shots on target but they just weren’t going in the back of the net for us. It’s onto the next game for us all now though.

Adding: “I thought I could have gone on for longer than 45 minutes but everyone needs their chance so I’ll just kick on now and hopefully get a starting place.

“There are lots of lads in the team that are willing and determined to get a place in the team, just like I am.

“That’s my aim. It’s everyone’s aim. The aim is to try and kick on but we’ll see what happens.”

Forbes is now relishing the week away in Germany and the chance to once again prove his worth to manager Graham Alexander.

“I’m looking forward to it. It’s good for the lads to bond and good to get a different surrounding and play different teams.

“It’ll be the first time I’ve been to Germany and I can’t wait.”
