Della-Verde eager for fresh start at Highbury

Midfielder has spent time on trial during the summer

Lyle Della-Verde is eager for a fresh start with Town after penning a two year contract with the Cod Army this afternoon.

The midfielder, who last played for Fulham, has spent time on trial with Graham Alexander’s side during pre-season and impressed the management.

He is now hoping to kick on after finding opportunities limited at Craven Cottage, with Town entertaining his former side Southend United on the opening day of the season.

He said: “I am really pleased and looking forward to the season. It has been a hard two weeks working really hard but I feel fit and I’m looking forward to the season.

“I ended my contract at Fulham towards the end of last season, and was offered a trial here during pre-season and I have been doing well, so they liked what they saw and offered me a contract.

“The lads were very welcoming in Germany. It was quite easy to spend time with them as they are nice people. It was hard but is was a pleasure.

“I was playing Sunday League football until the age of 14 and from there I went to Southend United where I was youth player at U14, U15 and U16.

“I got my move to Fulham and was there for a few years but didn’t get my chance in their first team.

“I’m looking forward to it a lot. I’ve worked hard in pre-season and need to make sure I’m in that team for the first game of the season.

“I really want to play every game. I’m here to play not just to be in the squad. I want to play games.”
