Youngster has caught the eye of the management

Fleetwood Town midfielder Keano Deacon has expressed his pleasure at the progress he has made on the pre-season tour of Germany.

Following the conclusion of the tour on the continent after the 2-1 defeat against Alemannia Aachen, the 19-year-old revealed his surprise at being part of the touring squad.

Despite the results not going the Cod Army’s way as they went down to a 1-0 to defeat to Borussia Dortmund B earlier in the week, Deacon has his eyes set on remaining in the first team picture.

Speaking to the Club’s media, the youngster detailed how his first pre-season tour with the first team has been an unforgettable experience.

He said: “I’ve enjoyed it a lot, I didn’t want it to come to an end. I’ve never done so much running. It’s been hard on the tour but I want to make sure I’m in the team this season.

“I need to make sure I keep myself grounded to stay in and around the first team.”

Talking of the moment he found out he would be travelling to Germany Deacon added:

“At the start I was told I was told I was going to Austria with the development team, so I thought I probably wouldn’t even get the chance to impress.

“Then, it was only the day before they let me know that I’d done well enough to go.”

He also recalled how he felt to be playing against Dortmund’s B side and having to make the step up from the development team, following on from the likes of Nick Haughton, Tyler Forbes and Ashley Hunter.

“The Dortmund game was a really big step up, it was really good and really hard.

“I really didn’t think I would be (starting), I just thought it would probably be the seniors first but I was really happy.

“I’ve never really played in front of anyone, so it’s been a good experience.”

The 19-year-old finished by stating the purpose of the tour; for the squad to get as minutes under their belts as possible ahead of the new League One season.

“It’s about the fitness and we’re getting there. Everyone is getting fitter and the results will come.”
