Illuminations will wow the millions who will visit Blackpool

BES Utilities is delighted to be the ‘Power Behind The Lights’ for a second successive year.

The new Illuminations features are incredible and will certainly wow the millions of people who come to Blackpool to enjoy the Lights each year.

As a family run, Fylde-based company, BES prides itself on passionately supporting this wonderful part of the UK.

We are one of the nation’s leading suppliers of commercial gas, electricity and telecoms and we are experts – through our range of innovative and market-leading products – at saving businesses money on their utility bills.

Blackpool’s historic and world famous Illuminations are no different to those businesses – although at six miles they are certainly among the longest we deal with!

The financial pressures on the public sector, and indeed the Lights, have been widely reported over the last few years.

And so BES is delighted to have put together a two-year sponsorship package for this iconic and wonderful spectacle.

Our investment in the Illuminations in 2014 and 2015 equates to more than £100,000 – the largest donation to the Lights in more than a decade.

And after seeing the plans for this year’s wonderful Illuminations extravaganza, I can see it is money that is being very well spent!

I feel there are a number of synergies between BES and the Lights – and not just in the fact electricity is a pretty important commodity for us both.

The original Illuminations first shone in 1879 when they were described as 'Artificial Sunshine', and consisted of a modest eight arc lamps on the Promenade

The Lights have since gone on to be known around the world.  BES began life in 2005 after similarly humble beginnings.

From starting their business under the glare of a single 100w bulb in a spare bedroom, the passion and drive of our founders Andy Pilley and Michelle Davidson has seen BES grow to one which now employs more than 400 people – making us one of the largest local employers.

Our local investment, of course, includes Fleetwood Town. This proud community football club has enjoyed six promotions in 10 years – taking the Cod Army to the heady heights of League One.

We are currently investing £6m in creating the wonderful FUSE Football in Thornton which not only gives Fleetwood’s professional footballers a state-of-the-art training facility, but also grass roots footballers – young and old – access
to community sports facilities unrivalled on the Fylde coast.

So we see investing in our local communities, businesses and such wonderful attractions as the Illuminations as a crucial part of the BES ethos.

We urge other businesses across the North West and the UK to get involved and work with the Illuminations team as together we can make a real difference.

In recognition of our continued support BES is delighted to announce we will be offering special discounted rates to new electricity, gas and telecom customers during the Illuminations season.

BES would like to wish Richard, Laurence, the Lights team, VisitBlackpool and the Friends of the Illuminations a truly wonderful 2015 season.
