Media executive passes University degree

Fleetwood Town have added another university graduate to their team in the form of media executive James Edwards.

James graduated from the University of Central Lancashire on Wednesday with a 2:1 degree in Sports Journalism, a fantastic achievement considering he has been working over 30 hours per week for the Club for the last nine months alongside his studies.

The proud Welshman moved up to the North West three years ago and started working for Fleetwood Town on a voluntary basis in 2013, writing match reports for the youth team.

Soon enough, James was working with the first team and covered games up and down the country. His role would include managing the social media accounts, writing match reports and conducting interviews following the game.

In September 2014, the football club rewarded James for his hard work by taking him on, on a part time basis, working alongside Media Manager, Jonathon Swift.

Even more impressive is that James still had a whole year of university to finish but was able to juggle both of his major responsibilities.

This summer, the Club opted to take James on full time and he plays a key role in the media department.

James has already introduced several new ideas including the social media channel Snapchat, with Fleetwood being one of the first teams in the Football League to have an official Snapchat account.

James said: “I have loved every minute working here at Fleetwood. I have been able to develop my skills and fortunately the Club have rewarded my hard work with a full time position.

“Myself and Jonathon get on extremely well and we strive to try and be one on of the front runners in terms of media output in the Football League.

“I am over the moon I graduated with a 2:1. Fleetwood have a great record of offering young people an opportunity to build their career and I am glad I can put myself in that category.”
