Futsal tournament attracts large interest

26 January 2015

Fantastic turn out...

Fleetwood Town Community Trust hosted its first schools futsal tournament earlier this month.

The Futsal form of the game has grown in popularity over the past few years. With this the Trust have been delivering futsal coaching to local high schools as a way of creating interest for their  BTEC Level 3 scholarship programme that the Trust provide.

The aim of the tournament is to introduce the game of Futsal to youngsters, allowing them to compete against other teams.

The tournament was played in a good spirit with some excellent skill and technique on display. The final was hotly contested by Montgomery and Baines, with Montgomery the eventual winners.

It provided an opportunity for us to showcase the Club’s Futsal BTEC Level 3 scholarship that we deliver.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students leaving secondary school that want to pursue a career in sport.

Our programme offers young people a first class education that can lead to university while also providing them with the chance to train and compete in a professional Futsal environment.

The Futsal and Education programme is a Level 3 Academic programme that uses the sports of Futsal and football to engage learners over a two-year period.

Successful students will leave the programme with a Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport, the equivalent of up to three A-Levels.

At the same time, training sessions in a professional club environment are supplemented by regular competitive fixtures against other teams, representing professional clubs in the Football League Trust Futsal League.
