Development squad were beaten 5-1 by the Wanderers

Fleetwood Town’s development squad fell to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

Barry Nicholson’s side have been in fine form this season, but were well beaten at the Trotters’ training ground.

First teamers Nathan Pond and David Ball were both in action once again, with the latter netting Town’s goal in the first half.

Despite the outcome, Nicholson was still pleased with the way his side played, especially in the first period, and admitted it was a learning curve for his lads.

After the game, he said: “I was really, really pleased with the performance in the first half, and we started the game very well.

“We tried to take last week’s performance against Leeds United into this one, and the lads did it well to begin with.

“In the second half we asked them to do a few things a little bit differently, and it just didn’t happen for us really.

“We lost a couple of goals and stopped doing the things that we’d do normally. We tried to force things when at times all we needed was a calm head and get organised once again.

“Once we lost a couple goals we sat off them a little bit as well, and became a bit worried which was unlike us in the first half when we got stuck in.

“It’s a learning curve for the lads and somewhat of a reality check as everybody was on a high after the game last week.

“What is shows the lads is that you can’t take your eye off the ball for one minute, and you have to keep doing things right and competing.”
