Striker looks ahead to this weekend's trip to Crewe...
Liam McAlinden believes the competition between Town’s strikers is fierce as they prepare to take on Crewe Alexandra on Saturday afternoon. The man on-loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers netted his first goal since re-joining the Club during the January transfer window against Barnsley on Tuesday evening.
Town had fell behind through Peter Ramage’s opener after four minutes, however Conor McLaughlin levelled before McAlinden volleyed home at the back post after half an hour.
And he admits the competition for places is healthy: “David Ball is a very good player, so too is Jamie Proctor at the moment and then you’ve got Stephen Dobbie on the bench as well.
“We’ve got good four lads up front who can all play well together, so it’s just a case of finding nice partnerships between us and the goals will start coming.”
He now hopes the Cod Army can continue their recent good form when they visit the home of the Railwaymen this weekend.
“We’ve had a good week so far. We obviously got ourselves back in the game against Peterborough and then went to Barnsley on Tuesday and took all three points after going behind.
“We’re all in good spirits and hoping we can take our form into Saturday and carry on with another good result.
“Peterborough and Barnsley are two teams who are around us, so to go and get points off them was great, but we have to go to Crewe and carry on our good form.
“If we manage to do that then you’re looking at seven points from three games which is the sort of form we think we should be in.
“Crewe are known for playing good football and they’re in a position in the league at the moment where they don’t want to be.
“We’ll still go there and give a professional performance like we do every week, and hopefully we’ll come away with the right result.
“I was delighted to score on Tuesday. Conor scores a great goal to get us back in it and then I was chuffed to score the winner. Winning was the main thing though.
“When I was here earlier in the season I scored two in two games, so I really want to get back into some good form now and help get us up the table.”
