Saturday's game is the first of three in seven days

Goalkeeper Chris Maxwell is relishing the prospect of three league games in the space of a week, starting on Saturday at home to Peterborough United.

The Cod Army welcome Darren Ferguson’s men to the Fylde Coast this weekend before taking on Barnsley and Crewe Alexandra next week.

Fleetwood narrowly fell to defeat at London Road earlier on in the season, and Maxwell is hoping his teammates can put things right at Highbury.

He said: “Every game is important to us between now and the end of the season as they’re all coming thick and fast.

“We’ve proved ourselves over the first half of the season, and if we continue to do the things we’re good at then I think we can pick up all three points on Saturday.”

“We’ve gone through a transitional period throughout the season, and all the lads are still learning at this level.

“We’ve got a good spine to the team and we’ve played together consistently now for a number of games.

“Our squad is filled with fantastic footballers and talented lads, and there hasn’t really been too many changes from last season.

“Nick Haughton and Tyler Forbes have both come in and done very well, and it’s great to see the young lads come through as first team players. It gives the gaffer a dilemma.”

Saturday’s fixture is the first of three in seven days for the squad, as they travel to face Oakwell on Tuesday night before facing the Railwaymen next Saturday.

“There isn’t a lot of recovery time between Saturday-Tuesday games, but I enjoy them and that’s what I want in particular.

“Fixtures coming thick and fast is what we want as there’s not a lot of thinking time between them, so if we win on Saturday we’ll be itching to play on the Tuesday.

“They’re two big games coming up against two big clubs, and one in particular that I’m going to relish and I’m sure the lads are too.”
