Midfielder on prospect of facing Notts County this weekend

Jeff Hughes has nothing but respect for this weekend’s opponents Notts County as Fleetwood Town look to get back to winning ways in League One.

The popular number 11 was a huge hit at County during a two year stay at Meadow Lane before opting to join Graham Alexander’s side in the summer of 2013.

The Northern Irish man, who missed Fleetwood’s 1-0 win at the home of the Magpies earlier this season said: “I am certainly looking forward to it. There are not many players left now from when I was there but it will be nice to play against their manager Shaun (Derry). He was one of the guys I knew quite well when I was at Crystal Palace.

“He is genuinely a good guy and he is making a good go of being a manager too.

“The Notts County fans were good with me even though I had a bit of a sticky start there. Some of their fans even come to watch me now.

“There are two in particular, Dougie and Sue, they will be here on Saturday and will definitely give me a cheer. They sent me cards when I was injured which was nice. Sue has a black Beetle with white stripes on it and the car is named after me.

“I had a good time at Notts. I would like to thank their supporters for my time there and I wish them well for the rest of the season ; after this weekend of course!”
