Cod Army slipped to 2-0 defeat at Ashton Gate

Graham Alexander heaped praise upon his players despite falling to defeat against Bristol City at Ashton Gate this afternoon.

Goals from Kieran Agard and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas earned the Robins all three points which moved them to first place in League One.

Alexander was left disappointed with the decisions that led to City’s goals however, and spoke of his discontent after the game.

He said: “I’m not scratching my head as I know the reasons why we got beat today. It wasn’t down to the way we played.

“I spoke to the fourth official at the end of the first half about the pressure that would come on the referee in the second half, and whether he could just ignore the crowd.

“He comes out at the second half though and it’s free kick after free kick and it won them the game.

“For the first one, the lad has seen Gareth Evans come in and has just jumped over him because he knows if he goes down at home with 10,000 fans behind him that the referee will give it.

“The free kick that wasn’t given on Nick Haughton for the second goal was disgraceful.”

Alexander reserved special mention for his players though and the way they took the game to their opponents.

“I thought my players were fantastic today. Whatever we say though is going to take the shine off the way my players played.

“I apologise to my players for that, but I was proud of every single one of them.”
