Antoni Sarcevic pulled Town level in the second half

Jimmy Ryan felt the Cod Army were the only side likely to win today’s game after Antoni Sarcevic had pulled them level against the Latics at Highbury.

Midfielder Sarcevic netted from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after David Ball was felled, but two late goals for the visitors won them the game.

Jordy Hiwula scrambled an effort home from inside the six yard box, before Michael Jacobs extended the leas as Town were left empty handed.

Ryan said: “Once we got the goal back I thought we were the only team going to go on and win it really. You could feel it in the ground when we were pushing forward.

“To concede the second goal like we did was disappointing, and then obviously the third one flattered them massively as they didn’t offer much in the second half.

“We’re not losing many games as a team but we’re not winning them, and like today against a side like Wigan we can’t give them a leg up.

“We’ve got a lot of games to play in January and a lot of points to fight for, and it’s all about keeping going and putting points on the board.

“It’s a busy time for us especially with games being called off and us doing well in the JPT, so we need to approach them one at a time.

“We need to grow in confidence as a team and I think we have done to be fair. Today is obviously a blow but we’ll move on and look at Bury now.”
