Town's youth team won 2-1 on Saturday morning

Fleetwood Town Youth team manager Nathan Rooney was pleased with the performance from his young squad following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Rochdale at Poolfoot Farm.

First-half strikes from Mamadou Djabi and Louis Myers helped the Codlings on their way to maximum points in the North West Youth Alliance League.

Following the victory over the Dale, Rooney offered up his post-match thoughts in an interview with Town’s official website.

Rooney said: “It was a positive outcome after a real hard graft. We looked really strong in the first half and got ourselves 2-0 up at half-time.

“Tiredness then kicked in as the lads haven’t played now for three or four weeks, so I was really happy with the performances of everyone out there.”

The youth team will now have a break over the Christmas and New Year period, and will resume their season on Saturday 9th January 2016 with a trip to Shropshire to play Shrewsbury Town.

And the U18s boss hopes that his side can continue their form heading into the New Year, with Town sitting third in the league table at the halfway stage.

He continued: “In the New Year it is just about kicking on, nothing is going to change, but the technical programme will change slightly to help them all individually.

“We are just looking to keep the campaign going and keep the positive outcomes going.

“It has been a good first half to the season, the lads have collected the same amount of points as they did in the whole of last season, so that is another positive.

“At the end of the day, it is all about working towards the first team, and I think that we have got a good group of lads here who work hard for us week in week out.

“The lads have to be better people, they have to come back stronger after Christmas but that is down to their independence and responsibility.”
