Development squad beat Burnley 3-1 this afternoon

Fleetwood Town’s development side beat Championship outfit Burnley 3-1 in a training match at Poolfoot Farm this afternoon.

The Cod Army opened the scoring midway through the first period when Mamadou Djabi netted, however the visitors equalised soon after.

But Town added a further two in the second half through Djabi and a trials to earn victory over the Clarets.

After the game, manager Barry Nicholson said: “I reminded the lads before the game that actually lost the last three.

“It’s something the lads haven’t been used to, so I asked for a response today and to be fair they responded in a great manner.

“The way they went about it early on in the game against a difficult wind was really good. We tried to take the ball away and play out from the back all the time.

“We were the better team throughout the game. Our end to end play was very good and pressed the game when we had to press it.

“The team shape was very good and the midfield three worked extremely hard, and the top three were a threat throughout.”
