Development squad drew 0-0 with the Reds today

Development squad manager Barry Nicholson praised his side’s defensive display as they held Liverpool to a goalless draw this afternoon.

The game gave a number of players the opportunity to impress first team boss Steven Pressley, with a mixture of individuals from the Under 21 and Under 18 set-up featuring.

After the game, Nicholson said: “We played some really good stuff yet again and I thought the shape of the team was very good.

“We were really well organised, but all that let us down was our play at the top end of the pitch with that final pass and final effort on goal.

“Defensively we were really good as a unit. It wasn’t just the back four because all of the players played their part, even the attacking lads.

“Aleks Gogic made a really good save for us without about 10 minutes to go from a corner, so that helped to keep the score level.

“The gaffer was there again today to watch so everybody had a chance to try and impress him, and the lads that needed 90 minutes like Tyler Forbes and Stephen Jordan also played.

“We had a good mixture in the group today and they all did really well. I was pleased with their efforts against a good side.”
