Town created a number of opportunities at Gresty Road

Amari’i Bell admitted that Town’s failure to take their chances cost them all three points against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday afternoon.

The Cod Army were on top for much of the second half, and were presented with a number of opportunities at Gresty Road.

Ryan Lowe opened the scoring early on for the Alex, but David Ball equalised almost immediately with fine strike from the right hand side.

Bell said: “In the first half we looked disjointed in places but in the second half we came out and did well and created a number of chances.

“They were very good chances which should have resulted in goals, but if you don’t take them then you end up in the situation that we are.

“You never want to concede an early goal as a team, and I think we need to defend better while being tighter as a unit.

“Bally’s goal though gave us the confidence that we needed, and then we started to show what a good team we were.

“We need to be better however and show how good a team we are for the whole 90 minutes. We can’t just play for one half because it’s not good enough.

“It was a game we needed to win and we didn’t do that. Hopefully we can go back into training next week and not be too down about it.

“It’s all about taking the second half performance into the Shrewsbury game, but make sure we play for the 90 minutes with the same intensity.”
