Town have beaten Bury and Colchester in the past week

Jimmy Ryan has expressed the squad’s confidence having scored eight goals in a week after putting four past both Bury and Colchester United.

The midfielder set the team on their way on Saturday afternoon as he scored in spectacular fashion from 25 yards.

Town then went on to add another three, David Ball made it two before Jamie Proctor and Jamille Matt also put their names on the scoresheet in the second half.

The convincing win added to the goals scored in the Cod Army’s 4-3 away victory at the Shakers last Tuesday night, and Ryan was always confident the goals would come.

He said: “There were a few people saying we may struggle for goals this season but the last two games proves there is goals in this team and hopefully we can carry it on.

“My goal came from the corner. The lad closed me down and I somehow got round him and just thought I’d have a shot, thankfully it went in.

“We can’t ask much more than taking six points from the last two games. Obviously against Oldham it was disappointing to lose as we had chances there and could have scored four.

“We’ll just take the positives from the last two games into the next game and hopefully get another win.”

He added: “The chances were there in the last few games, even against Southend we could have won. We could have won all four but we haven’t and it’s a learning curve.

“We learnt from that and hopefully it’s made us a stronger team for it.

“It gives us a massive boost going into the next game and hopefully it can put us on a little run and who knows where it can take us.

“The lads have confidence in their own ability. We know what we’re capable of and what we can do and give anyone in the league a game.

“We’ve proved that up to now, we’ve put four away on Saturday and four away against Bury which isns’t easy as they’re meant to be strong squad this season.

“We won’t be scared going to the Keepmoat Stadium next Saturday to face Doncaster Rovers.”
