Nicholson: We were well beaten by Rangers

18 August 2015

Ash Hunter scored Town's goal in their defeat

Fleetwood Town’s development side were beaten by Glasgow Rangers’ Under 21 side at Poolfoot Farm on Tuesday afternoon.

And boss Barry Nicholson was disappointed with the manner of the defeat, as they conceded three goals against their Scottish counterparts.

It was the squad’s first defeat of the new season after a number of impressive performances in recent weeks.

Nicholson said: “We were obviously disappointed with the result as the lads haven’t had to deal with defeats very often.

“It was a good lesson though to be fair as we didn’t keep the ball at all, and possession was really, really poor.

“The higher level you go, the more times you give the ball away the more you get punished, and we just couldn’t get hold of the ball.

“It was probably the worst we’ve been on the ball in the year and a bit that I’ve done the job, so it came as a little bit of a shock really.

“We still created a few chances during the game, but didn’t really start the game well and they were the better side.

“Once we got going I’d say for half an hour or so we were probably the better team as we did knock it around and got forward.

“Ash Hunter got himself a good goal but it was just individual errors that cost us goals, and overall didn’t do enough in the game to get anything from it.”

The development squad are next in action on Wednesday when they travel to Preston North End.
