Development squad won in East Lancashire on Tuesday

The development squad’s passion and desire pleased manager Barry Nicholson as they beat Burnley’s development squad at Gawthorpe Hall on Tuesday afternoon.

Ashley Hunter continued his fantastic form in front of goal with the game’s only strike from a free kick in the first half.

Nicholson’s squad created plenty of opportunities throughout and could have extended the winning margin.

After the game, he said: “I thought we were great from start to finish. The gaffer came over for a chat after the game and said he was delighted with the lads.

“There was loads of passion and loads of desire. These games can sometimes be difficult as they’re seen as friendlies but the boys treat the games like they should be.

“It was brilliant to watch and another win for them against a club who are a league above us in the English divisions.

“Goalscoring wise I think Ash Hunter is on 12 already so he’s done really well. He’s got bits to his game which he needs to learn though.

“He knows that and is a willing listener and learner anyway, so I’m just delighted with the way he’s going and try to push the lads as much as I can towards the first team.

“The gaffer is the man who makes the final decision on his squad, but if these lads can play like that every game then I’m sure he will take note.

“When we first started this group we were really inconsistent but they’ve found consistency to their game which is pleasing.”
