Programme want to raise awareness of homeless charities
Local youngsters involved with the Community Trust’s NCS programme will be sleeping rough at the Club’s training ground as part of their social action project next Tuesday evening. The programme is currently in its third week out of four, with youngsters enjoying trips to Lockerbie and Hothersall Lodge in Preston during the first and second weeks.
The group came up with the idea to raise awareness for the homeless charity, Homelife, and will experience just what is it like to live rough at Poolfoot Farm.
NCS co-ordinator Joey Newson said: “As part of our NCS programme this year we have to do a social action project and look at a charitable contribution within the community.
“The group of young people that we've got thought it would be a great idea to look at a homeless charity who target teenagers and young adults.
“It’s all about how we as a Community Trust can raise money and awareness for that particular charity.
“When I found out I was going to be sleeping rough next Tuesday evening it was a shock for me!
“It’s a great opportunity through to really show people just what kinds of different charities there are out there.
“Homeless charities may be something that people aren’t so familiar with, so it’s a great opportunity to have a look at that.”
