Cod Army created a number of openings

Conor McLaughlin stated that Town were made to rue a number of missed opportunities against Oldham Athletic in Greater Manchester today.

The Cod Army created a number of openings in the first half, with Antoni Sarcevic, Declan McManus and Jamille Matt all going close.

Danny Philliskirk netted the game’s only goal before the break as he got in behind the defence and slotted beyond Chris Maxwell.

After the game, McLaughlin said: “I thought it was a penalty at the end but we had plenty of chances before then to score and on another day three of four of them go in.

“We started really well and for the first 20-25 minutes had them camped in their half. We should have been up in the game after creating so many chances.

“It was a sort of a sucker punch when they scored their goal and we’re disappointed with the way we conceded it.

“We as defenders know it was a poor goal to concede but on the other side of the coin we should have been ahead before that happened.

“We need to get both ends of the pitch right at the minute so hopefully that will happen soon enough for us.

“It’s a good thing for us that the game are coming thick and fast now. We need to learn our lessons and move on from this.”
