Striker netted his first Town goal in 17 months

Jamille Matt netted his first Fleetwood Town goal in 17 months in this afternoon’s comprehensive victory over Colchester United.

The striker missed the entirety of the 2014/15 Sky Bet League One season through injury, but returned at the start of pre-season and has featured regularly for Town so far.

His last strike in Cod Army colours came on Saturday 15th March in a win on home soil over Portsmouth.

Matt replaced David Ball up front in the second half and rounded a fine substitute performance with a close range finish.

After the game, he said: “It was a great feeling when I scored. I didn’t know how to celebrate or what to do.

“The lads had put us in a tremendous position before my goal, but I was happy to come on and get the opportunity to score the goal.

“My troubles with injury has been well documented in the past, and I spent a lot of time on my own in the gym.

“Hopefully I’ve put that behind me now so I can look forward to the future and score more goals.

“The lads probably think I’m a broken record as I go onto them all the time because there’s nothing worse than being injured for 12 months.

“It’s all about getting on with it and trying to look forward. Playing football is a wonderful job and something which I dreamed about as a kid.

“When you come in and moan about it people shouldn’t lose sight of how hard it is to stay playing, so we’ve got to enjoy all we can.

“Luk Bussey the physio has taken a lot of my frustration over the past year or so and he’s always looked after me, so I felt I had to celebrate with him.”
