Manager disappointed to exit cup competition

A disappointed Graham Alexander spoke to the Club’s media team after tonight’s Capital One cup defeat to Sky Bet League Two side Hartlepool United.

Billy Paynter struck the game’s only goal in the second period, as he connected with a header from the right and powered beyond Chris Maxwell.

Both sides had further chances to score, with Town going close through David Ball on two occasions, while Bobby Grant hit the bar in added time.

Alexander said: “The overriding thought is obviously disappointment as we wanted to progress in this competition.

“We had a great opportunity to do that tonight and we haven't taken it.

“They did what they needed to do to win, but I thought we did more than enough to score.

“The goal we conceded was very sloppy and it was a cheap free kick which was given against us.

“For our performance I thought we did more than enough to win the game.

“We just need to do the most important thing in football which is score goals.

“We haven’t taken our chances and were done by a set-piece which is disappointing.

“To be fair to the players they kept going to the last minute.

“Their work ethic and attitude were second to none and they were constantly probing.

“We’ll take stock and look at where we can improve as a team.”
