Alexander content with Keepmoat point

Graham Alexander told the media after the 0-0 draw with Doncaster that he wants the Cod Army to finish the season strongly and take momentum into the 2015/16 League One campaign.

In a game of few chances, Town maintained their push for a top half finish and Alexander was pleased to leave the Keepmoat Stadium with a well-earned point. However, the boss did admit the Cod Army could have been a bit more ruthless in the final third.

He said: “We were pleased to take something from the game. We would have liked to have created a little bit more attacking wise. We did well in the first half but in the second we didn’t create very much.

“There was a lot of midfield play from both teams and I thought it was a fair result in the end with a draw.  We would have liked to have threatened their goal a bit more.

“We have spoken in the dressing room after the game and if we had collected a few more of these results on the road this season, we would be in a lot stronger position. We need to add this to our armoury.

“We kept the same team as the other night as I thought we played well despite the actual end result. We started in a positive fashion and it was pleasing to keep a clean sheet.

“Doncaster have a lot of firepower and we handled their threats well. The defensive players are proud of their clean sheet and it is important they have pride in their work.

“We had a meeting before the game and we spoke about doing ourselves justice in these last three games and giving the supporters something to cheer about. We are not on our holidays and the lads showed their commitment and we wanted to win the game.

“I don’t want us to finish poorly and people remember that about the season. The lads have been superb and we want to finish strong in our final two games of the season.

“I do believe if we finish strong we can take that into pre-season and next season.”
