Boss after late defeat at Walsall

Graham Alexander gave an honest assessment of this afternoon’s defeat to Walsall as Town suffered their first setback in five games.

Tom Bradshaw struck late on for the Saddlers as he slotted beyond Chris Maxwell from a tight angle, which moved them further away from the relegation zone.

Defeat leaves the Cod Army five points adrift of sixth placed Chesterfield with four games to play, and next up for Alexander’s men is MK Dons on Tuesday night.

He said: “I was disappointed with the second half performance as I thought we controlled it well as the away team in the first.

“We had a couple of good opportunities in the first half, but then in the second half we didn’t play well enough to win the game.

“We should have seen the game out and been happy with a point, and I guess that’s been our achilles heel this season.

“We gave the ball away for the goal and was something we did quite often in the second half.

“Bradshaw’s found half a yard and it was a good finish from a striker who has scored lots of goals.

“We wanted to come here and continue our run really. We haven’t managed to do that which is disappointing.

“As a group we didn’t play to the levels we knew we could in the second half.”
