Town host a U's side who are battling to stay in the division

Graham Alexander wants his Town side to finish the season as they started it with a win over Colchester United on Saturday afternoon.

The Cod Army defeated Crewe Alexandra at Highbury on the opening day of the season, and Alexander is hoping his players can finish the season off well too.

Tony Humes U’s side currently sit in 23rd place in League One, and head to Lancashire knowing that they must pick up maximum points to avoid the drop.

Ahead of the game, Alexander said: “The season has flown this year. We remember the week leading up to the Crewe game and how we were all excited about it.

“We’ve enjoyed the past nine months as it’s been great for us as a Club to compete against some famous clubs.

“All in all we’ve handled ourselves really well so we’re looking forward to the game on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can finish off the way we started with a really good home win.

“There’s always teams either fighting for promotion or battling relegation right up until the end, and that’s the beauty of it all.

“Colchester find themselves at the wrong end of the table but by no means will it be an easy game for us.

“We’ll be expecting them to fight for their lives. They’ve got some good players in the squad as we found out when we played them down there.

“They’ve brought in a bit of experience with Chris Porter up top, and they’re motivation to win the game will be there for all to see.

“We’ll have to match that and better it, and if we get our quality players playing as well as they can then hopefully we’ll win the game.

“We’ll have to be at our best to get a positive result. The players have all been absolutely bang at it in training this week.

“They’ve shown no signs at all of resting or coming off it, but it’s important now that we take that into Saturday’s game.”
