Midfielder has impressed for Town in recent weeks

Nick Haughton gave his first interview to the Club website this week as Town prepare for a Good Friday clash against Gillingham.

The youngster has caught the eye for the Cod Army during his emergence this campaign, and has performed admirably in recent weeks.

He netted his first Town goal against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in March, and now hopes to establish himself as a key player in Graham Alexander’s side.

Fleetwood know that a win at the Priestfield Stadium on Friday will boost their hopes of a Play-Off place with only seven games to go.

Ahead of the clash, Haughton said: “I’m really enjoying it. I’m starting to get more game time now and I just want to keep pushing on.

“We’re looking for six points over the Easter period and I’m excited for the games after good results against Bradford and Preston.

“This time last year I was working part time in Pizza Hut, and now I’m playing on Sky against Preston so it’s just a massive turnaround in such a short space of time.

“The big step was going full time at the start of the season really. I was at college so I was nowhere near fit, but things have changed now and I’m happy.”

Haughton praised the likes of captain Mark Roberts, Stephen Jordan and Antoni Sarcevic for all helping him settle in.

“The likes of Robbo and Stevie Jordan have helped me in bigger games when I have been a little bit nervous, and they have helped me keep my head, so they have been massive for me.

“Sarcs is always helping me in training too, so I take a lot from him to be fair because he is a player who is similar to me and I can take things from.

“The gaffer’s not scared to throw the young lads in, which is obviously encouraging for me. I’ve come from non-league, Ash has come from non-league and we have come in and done well to be fair.

“Tyler has done superb as well so the gaffer should take a lot of praise for that. It is always nice that the fans like you and they are so nice to me.”
