Liam Wood shared his delight to the Club website after scoring the winner in Town's 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Youth Cup at Highbury on Wednesday evening.

Wood netted a phenomenal goal for the Cod Army in the 59th minute as Fleetwood booked their place in the second round of the competition.

Afterwards, Wood spoke to the media team and said: "I'm delighted to get my name on the score-sheet. It's a special day and I'm just glad that it was capped off with a win.

"To score the winning goal and to send Fleetwood Town through to the next round is truly amazing. It's the best feeling in the world and I am delighted, we fully deserved it."

Wood, who will be looking to earn a professional contract with the Club in the future, took his winner with aplomb, and the game could have been won by a bigger margin.

His winner just before the hour mark made it a second win in three days for Town following Saturday's 3-2 win over Morecambe.

He continued: "It is certainly the proudest moment of my career so far without a doubt and words can't fully describe how happy I am at the moment.

I feel as a group, these two results are what we needed, now we can hopefully kick on up the league table after a great couple of matches.”
