The striker netted his first goal since the opening day

David Ball spoke to the Club’s media team after the 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers and admitted he is pleased to have scored for the first time since the opening day.

The 24-year-old netted against Crewe in August, but broke his duck against Donny as Town cruised to victory, making it back-to-back league wins at Highbury.

He said: “It meant a lot to me to get on the scoresheet. I just tried something different and it’s gone in. Sometimes you have to try things and today it has come off.”

Despite not being in the starting line-up in recent weeks, the striker explained that once he got his chance, he knew he had to take it:

“It’s everything you want coming back into the team. We have been deserving of the three points in the past four or five games so just getting those points on the board is the most vital thing.”

Adding: “The last four weeks have been really frustrating for myself.

“I’ve come on and done well a few times but I’ve waited for my chance, like everyone else has, and you make sure you’re ready to go back in and when you do you produce the goods.”

The win put the Cod Army into ninth place and just a point off the play-off places.

“I think on the day the scoreline has flattered them. We’ve been a bit suspect at not being ruthless but today all three strikers have got on the scoresheet and all the strikers have assisted as well.

“The work we have been doing on the training ground, trying to get into the box and getting in scoring positions have obviously worked.”

Town are still unbeaten at home since moving up a division into League One and Ball is now hoping to take that form into the following away matches against MK Dons and Preston North End:

“We are become a bit of a force at home. We are close to being a very good away side as well.”

He added: “We all said let’s get this game won and then go to MK Dons and Preston and enjoy ourselves and try and get as many points from them as we can, and that will put us in good stead confidence wise.

“We’re firing on all cylinders now and I’m delighted.”
