Goals from Glean, Myers and Hancox sealed the win
Craig Madden and Steve Carlin were full of praise for their players as they overcame Sheffield United in the second round of the FA Youth Cup at Highbury on Tuesday night. The Young Cod Army fell behind midway through the first half, but replied with three goals to see their Yorkshire counterparts off.
Goals from Shane Glean, Louis Myers and Jordan Hancox sealed a memorable night for the Club, which will now see them take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the next round.
Carlin said: “I thought the boys were outstanding. Their heart, their desire, their strength, the way they passed the ball on Highbury was just a pleasure to watch.
“They wanted everything more than Sheffield United, and just the way they played was fantastic tonight.
“The Sunderland game is one against top opposition, but the boys have deserved it.
“It’s not about us, it’s about the boys. They’ve put the performance in.”
And Craig Madden was quick to echo Carlin’s words as the Cod Army prepare for a trip to Wearside.
“We deserved it tonight and we were better than them. It doesn’t matter who you play, it’s all about what you do on the night, and we played the best football.
“I think 3-1 doesn’t do us a whole deal of credit as it could have been a lot more.
“Teams are there to beaten and I think a lot of people will be surprised by tonight’s result.”
