Hitchcock ecstatic with debut goal

Loanee's goal proved the difference on Saturday

Tom Hitchcock spoke to the Club’s media team after his match-winning display against Gillingham on Saturday as he scored the game’s only goal.

The 22-year-old, who joined on loan from MK Dons on Thursday, took just three minutes to score his first goal for the Cod Army.

Having found chances limited with his parent club this season, Hitchcock is hoping his time on the Fylde Coast will see him get a run of games.

After the win the striker discussed his goal and admitted that it will help boost his confidence.

He said: “It’s good to play 90 minutes again and get a goal which will really help with my confidence.

“Three points is the main thing though as it keeps getting us up the table. It’s a big win as I thought Gillingham played well today.”

When asked about how the move to Fleetwood came about, the youngster responded by saying he could not wait to get to Highbury.

“On Thursday morning the gaffer at MK Dons pulled me and said Fleetwood wanted me on loan. It was a no brainer really.”

“I want to play games and score goals and help Fleetwood get up the table.”

One player he is looking forward to playing with more often is his strike partner in the 1-0 win over Gillingham, Stephen Dobbie: “It should be good linking up with Dobbie because he is a good lad and a very good player.”

The on-loan MK Dons striker’s third minute goal ensured Fleetwood remain unbeaten at home in League One, and secured a third win on the bounce at Highbury.

“Home form is massive. To keep winning at home you’re only going to go up the table. We just need to get the away form going too.”
