Skipper hopes to be celebrating under the arch on Monday tea time

Mark Roberts, the Fleetwood Town captain, is targeting turning a dream into reality when the Cod Army take on Burton Albion for a place in Sky Bet League 1 next season.

Both Fleetwood and Burton will travel to the capital to contest the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off final at Wembley Stadium with the winner earning the right to join Chesterfield, Rochdale and Scunthorpe United in the third tier of English football next season.

The 30-year-old defender conceded that Fleetwood’s first trip to Wembley will only be special if they cap off their highest ever finish with a sixth promotion in ten years and has called on the squad to give it their all.

Speaking to Cod Army Player, Roberts said: “It’s a very important day, but it’s only going to be special if we finish out on top.

“We need to make sure that we are focused on the game and produce the best performance we possibly can and hopefully that will be more than enough.

“We understand what they are all about – their strengths and also some of their weaknesses – but we have played them at different points over the season.

“We have had different players, we have evolved as a team and got stronger as a team.

“You can draw a bit of experiences upon them (past games) but ultimately it’s not going to massively effect what happens next Monday. It will be who turns up on the day and which team produces the best."
