Defender joins the Cod Army ahead of the 2014/15 campaign

On the back of securing their promotion to Sky Bet League One, Fleetwood Town have announced their first signing of the close season after completing a deal to bring Danny Andrew to Highbury Stadium.

The 23-year-old left back joins Graham Alexander’s side from Skrill Premier side Macclesfield Town for an undisclosed fee after impressing for the Silkmen where he played in all 51 of their league and cup games last season.

Fleetwood first made contact with the former Peterborough full back before the end of the season, but after watching the Cod Army play himself, Andrew admits that it was a ‘no-brainer’ to move to the Fylde Coast.

“From the very first meeting to now it seems like a life time,” Andrew told the club’s official website.

“I am over the moon to make the move back into the league and especially into League One.

“The manager phoned me and said that they wanted to meet me for a meeting. I met the gaffer and that was it from there. It just all happened fairly quickly.

“I have seen a couple of games, I watched the Play-Offs, and I like the way they play and the ambitions of the club are different class.

“It seems like it has got really good people in and around the club and it was a no-brainer for me.

“As soon as they showed the interest, I think I was always going to end up coming here.”

Whilst the memory of a sixth promotion in ten years is still fresh in the minds of everybody connected with Fleetwood Town, Andrew also revealed that he was watching from afar as Alexander’s side secured their promotion to League One next season.

“I was actually at my Nan and Grandad’s with them and with some family members and it was a bit surreal after the game.

“My main ambition was to get back into the league this season and luckily now its League One and I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a bit surreal; I will be playing against my hometown Peterborough where it all began.

“As soon as I get back into pre-season that is when it will be reality and that’s when the hard work begins.”
