Conor has become the first player in the club’s history to win an international cap whilst at Fleetwood Town
Fresh after winning promotion to League One with the Cod Army, Conor McLaughlin flew to South America to join up with the Northern Ireland squad for their friendly against the Los Charrúas.
The defender, whose younger brother Ryan was also in the squad, joined the action in the 87th minute as a substitute.
Conor has become the first player in the club’s history to win an international cap whilst at Fleetwood Town.
Unfortunately, they lost 1-0 courtesy of Christian Stuani's close-range strike in the 62nd minute in front of more than 50,000 spectators.
Uruguay fielded a near full-strength team, the only notable absentees being Liverpool's Luis Suarez, who is recovering from a knee injury, and Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin.
However, the likes of Edinson Cavani and former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan both featured.
“It rounds off one of the best weeks of my career so far after winning promotion with Fleetwood Town on Monday at Wembley. We (Northern Ireland) have another game now on Thursday against Chile and I am focused on that.”
Conor and his team mates will be back in action on Thursday against Chile before returning back to British shores.
