Cod Army midfielder gets set to face former employers this weekend

Alan Goodall hopes Fleetwood Town can take Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers into the match against Rochdale at Highbury on Saturday.

The defensive midfielder returned to the Cod Army’s starting line-up for the midweek fixture against the Gas and helped Town remain in the race for automatic promotion with victory.

Goodall was making his first start in three matches and was happy to play his part in the performance against Rovers.

“It was a good win for us and it was nice to be in the first eleven,” said Goodall.

“We needed that win after what happened at Exeter on the weekend and I thought it was a good all-round team performance against Bristol (Rovers).”

Goodall had two spells with Saturday’s opponents Rochdale, who top the League Two table.

However, he sees it as just another match and insists it is picking up the three points – not personal pride – that counts.

“It’s just another game for me really so there won’t be any added spice I don’t think,” said Goodall.

“They will be a tough side to beat hence the reason they are top at the moment. They will be organised and we will all have to work hard in order to get a good result.

“We beat them at their place earlier in the season but the circumstances are different now so we will have to be on our game on Saturday.”
