Midfielder captured on loan from Coventry City
Fleetwood Town have completed the loan signing of midfielder Adam Barton from Coventry City until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old midfielder joins the Cod Army from League One outfit and is reunited with Graham Alexander, with the pair team mates during their days at Preston North End together.
Pleased to see the deal completed, manager Graham Alexander said: “We needed to make sure we have strength in depth for the run. I know Adam from my time at Preston and he is very composed on the ball.
“He is a good passer and an all-round strong midfield player. He will be a great addition to the players we already have.
“He knows a few of the lads already in the dressing room so he is coming into a familiar environment.
“He is a different type of player to what we already have so I am pleased we have got the deal completed.
Barton, born in Clitheroe, started his career at Blackburn Rovers before joining Preston North End’s youth academy.
Impressing at Deepdale, Barton made his first team debut for the Lilywhites in 2010 against Scunthorpe, and went on to make 58 appearances for the club before joining Coventry in 2012.
So far this season, Barton has clocked up 17 appearances for the Sky Blues, his last in the 2-1 victory over Walsall earlier this month.
“It is good to be here,” admitted Barton. “I know a lot of faces here at Fleetwood and I have worked with the manager before.
“I know what he is all about and vice-versa. I am looking forward to getting some game time and hopefully helping Fleetwood win promotion to League One.
“It is good to be back up north with my family close by and I have played at Highbury before in a pre-season friendly for Preston North End.
“We are playing the top of the league on Saturday and it is a great game to look forward to.”
