Experienced midfielder joins Fleetwood Town

Keith Southern has agreed to sign for Fleetwood Town once his current deal at Huddersfield Town expires on 30th June.

The 33-year-old will leave the Championship club having spent two years and 41 appearances there, leaving him just a handful of games short of 400 professional appearances.

Midfielder Southern spent almost a decade at Bloomfield Road side, clocking up 330 league appearances – with over 150 of them in the Premiership and Championship – before moving across the Pennines for a £300,000 fee.

Gateshead born Southern started his career at Everton where he captained the reserve side.

Fleetwood are preparing for Sky Bet League 1 football after winning promotion in the League Two Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium.

Southern will be Graham Alexander’s 2nd summer signing joining left-back Danny Andrew who joined Town from Macclesfield.

The midfielder said "The vision here is a real opportunity for me to run with a club who are going places. I've played against Graham Alexander and I know he is an  ambitious guy. He looks to the future and neither him or the club want to standstill. I'm looking forward to meeting the lads and helping this team win games.
