Cod Army fall to 3-0 defeat in Wales
Development coach Barry Nicholson told Fleetwood Town’s website he was happy to see his young players get some minutes under their belts at Cefn Druids.
The Cod Army’s development squad fell to a 3-0 defeat in their first ever game but Nicholson believes an early pre-season friendly will do his players well in the long run.
“The result is really disappointing and the lads are down but we will pick ourselves up,” said Nicholson.
“We have done a lot of fitness work this week and we trained before the game until 1.30pm.
“We treated the match as a double training session. Some of the players played 45 minutes and others got an hour. The younger lads in the team were given half an hour at the end.
“It was a mix and match team. We are disappointed with the result but all in all it was a good run out for the players.
“It is important that we have played a game early on. I remember as a player going three weeks without a match, it was just constant training.
“It was good to have a match a week after we returned to training. Wednesday night was all about fitness.
“We will move on to the next game. We will train hard ahead of our trip to Kendal Town on Tuesday night. The lads are looking forward to the next game and to get a better result. By that point we will be a lot fitter and a lot stronger.”
