Assistant Manager explains how the team are getting ready for League One

Fleetwood Town’s assistant manager Chris Lucketti spoke to the official Club website after the Cod Army had finished their third full day of a week-long pre-season tour of Austria.

The players were put through their paces at the picturesque setting in Obertraun, with fitness and conditioning playing a key role in today’s sessions.

Town’s first game will come on Wednesday when they face Russian Premier League outfit FC Terek Grozny before taking on local side FC Pinzgau Saalfelden on Friday.

Lucketti, said: “It’s very hard work for the boys, but they’re all enjoying being here together working hard and concentrating on their fitness.”

The former centre half arrived in Austria 24 hours before the squad and flew out after the 5-0 victory over Colwyn Bay on Thursday night: “I came out a day before to make sure the preparation was right for when the lads arrived. It’s just part of being professional and prepared.”

Having travelled to Obertraun for pre-season tours the last couple of seasons, Lucketti insisted that the venue is perfect for the players: “It’s got everything you’d want for a pre-season tour; fantastic facilities, great pitches, gyms and the food is good for the lads to re-fuel afterwards.”

Asked of the importance of the tour, Lucketti responded: “The trip’s all about fitness and preparing for life in League One. We have three new players and this gives them time to bed in and bond with their teammates, and it’s all just about preparing mentally and physically for the challenge ahead.”

Although based in Austria, Town will cross the border back into Germany on Wednesday for what is sure to be a stern test against the Russians: “It will be a tough game for us, but a test we’re relishing to see where the lads are at.”

During yesterday’s session, Lucketti was sporting a GoPro camera, a new piece of technical equipment that the club have introduced during the close-season:  “It’s a great tool which allows us to look back over training and analyse how the lads have done.”
