Barry Nicholson will lead new adventure for Cod Army

Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce that there will be a development squad set up in place for the 2014/15 season.

The group will be coached by former Fleetwood Town favourite Barry Nicholson, who makes a return to the Cod Army following a year back in his native Scotland at Kilmarnock.

Nicholson so far has seven players under his wing, including Fleetwood born Richard Wright, who has signed a new contract with the Club.

Also to pen new deals at Highbury are Keano Deacon, Nick Haughton and Max Cartwright, with the trio having impressed the management team with their performances in the youth team or on loan last season.

Coming through the entrance door to join the development squad are Tyler Forbes, Joe Taylor and Josh Green.

“I am delighted to be back at the Club and the manager has given me a great opportunity to take the development squad,” admitted Nicholson.

“It was a big decision to hang up my boots but as soon as I spoke to the manager and he gave me the plans for the development squad, it was a no brainer for me to come back.

“The development squad will be in-between the first and youth teams. It is brand new; we have six outfield players signed already and a goalkeeper.

“We are looking to bring in a few more new faces throughout pre-season and it is a good opportunity for all the lads involved. It is a stepping stone between the youth team and the first team.”
